24th Annual Shreve Spring Migration Sensation

Registration and Breakfast is 7:30 - 10:30, Breakfast Homestyle by Orchard Land School.  Pick up maps for spotting sites and the other activities listed below.  Registering gets your name in drawing to win a rare opportunity to visit the Big Spring Site which is closed to the public, for a group of four Dennis Solon of ODNR. Location:  Clinton Township Building, 135 E. McConkey St. Shreve 


Spotting Sites throughout the Shreve Marsh area: Cemetery Road, Wright Marsh, Funk Bottoms Wildlife Observation Area.   NEW: The Wilderness Center will be at a new spotting location and will be available to help new birders. 


The traditional spotting board will be back and located at at the Clinton Township Building where Registration, Breakfast, Speaking Area, and Vendors will be located. 


Browns Bog tour lead by the Nature Conservancy; 9:00 - 12:00 pm.  Brown's Lake Bog is a dedicated Ohio state nature preserve owned by The Nature Conservancy. It is one of the few remaining kettle peatlands in the United States. It has a kettle lakekame, and a floating sphagnum moss mat.

1:00  Jamey Emmert, Wildlife Specialist, ODNR Division of Wildlife, A 20-year media relations and wildlife conservation education professional with Ohio Division of Wildlife and is a contributor to Wild Ohio magazine.


2:00 Greg Miller -- will speak on doing a Big Year and and his experience consulting for the film “The Big Year” which is based on the 2004 non-fiction book The Big Year: A Tale of Man, Nature and Fowl Obsession by Mark Obmascik. The book follows three men, one of whom is Greg Miller, on a quest for a Big Year which is a competition among birders to see who can spot and identify the greatest number of bird species in North America (north of Mexico) in a calendar year.


3:00 Laura Kearns -   is a Wildlife Biologist with the Ohio Division of Wildlife, where she oversees projects with wetland and forest birds, in addition to several raptor species. Her research interests include predator-prey interactions, urban ecology, and avian conservation and management.

Kid's Activities

10:00 - 12:00 Dip Netting for Marsh Creatures at Wright Marsh , sponsored by United Titanium Bug Zoo 


10:00 - 3:00 Pick up a Passport to stamp or a Scavenger Hunt book and try to find marsh creatures. Get a plush RIVER OTTER for participating. 


10:00 – 11:00 and 12:00 –2:00 pm.  The Wilderness Center will have children's activities at the Shreve Branch of the Wayne County Public Library. 


10:00 - 1:00 pm See live raptors up close with the Medina Raptor Center at the Gathering Place at Hebrews. 


Lunch: Famous Chicken BBQ at 298 N. Market St, Shreve with seating at the Township Building.  HeBrews Coffee House and Das Dutch Essenhaus are lunch opportunities also located on Market Street; both near the stop light!
