Residents may have noticed pavement damage along the road near the former Sweethaven building, as shown in the photo above. The damage is believed to be the result of thermal expansion — a condition in which pavement expands and buckles due to prolonged exposure to high temperatures. The Village of Shreve is aware of the issue and is actively working with the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) to address the situation as quickly as possible. In the meantime, please be advised of the following: A temporary traffic light will be installed at the affected area to help manage traffic flow safely while repairs are arranged. Motorists are asked to exercise caution when traveling through this area and to reduce speed accordingly. We ask for your patience as we work to get this resolved in a timely manner. The safety of our residents and visitors is our top priority. We will continue to provide updates as the repair process moves forward. Thank you for your understanding. The Village of Shreve would like to take this opportunity to remind all residents to be mindful of the ongoing heat and its impact on animals in your care. With temperatures remaining elevated, it is important to check on your animals regularly throughout the day. Please ensure they have access to the following at all times: Fresh, cool water — Water can heat up or be depleted quickly in high temperatures. Check and refill water sources multiple times daily. Adequate shade or shelter — Animals should have a shaded area or enclosed shelter where they can escape direct sunlight. Proper ventilation — Enclosed spaces such as coops, pens, and kennels can retain heat rapidly. Ensure airflow is sufficient. We also encourage residents to check in on neighbors who may need assistance caring for their animals during this time. If you observe an animal that appears to be in distress or is without adequate care, please contact the appropriate local authorities. Thank you for your attention to this matter and for helping keep our community — and its animals — safe this summer. Shreve Village Hall
